PUISI DOA DI JAKARTA – WS RENDRA

Tuhan yang Maha Esa,
alangkah tegangnya
melihat hidup yang tergadai,
fikiran yang dipabrikkan,
dan masyarakat yang diternakkan.

Malam rebah dalam udara yang kotor.
Di manakah harapan akan dikaitkan
bila tipu daya telah menjadi seni kehidupan?
Dendam diasah di kolong yang basah
siap untuk terseret dalam gelombang edan.
Perkelahian dalam hidup sehari-hari
telah menjadi kewajaran.
Pepatah dan petitih
tak akan menyelesaikan masalah
bagi hidup yang bosan,
terpenjara, tanpa jendela.

Tuhan yang Maha Faham,
alangkah tak masuk akal
jarak selangkah
yang bererti empat puluh tahun gaji seorang buruh,
yang memisahkan
sebuah halaman bertaman tanaman hias
dengan rumah-rumah tanpa sumur dan W.C.
Hati manusia telah menjadi acuh,
panser yang angkuh,
traktor yang dendam.

Tuhan yang Maha Rahman,
ketika air mata menjadi gombal,
dan kata-kata menjadi lumpur becek,
aku menoleh ke utara dan ke selatan -
di manakah Kamu?
Di manakah tabungan keramik untuk wang logam?
Di manakah catatan belanja harian?
Di manakah peradaban?
Ya, Tuhan yang Maha Hakim,
harapan kosong, optimisme hampa.
Hanya akal sihat dan daya hidup
menjadi peganganku yang nyata.

...

(Mazmur 186)

Doa di Tengah Kabut Kegagalan

Kala kesesakan menghampiri aku dan enggan beranjak meninggalkanku. Kala jalan yang kutempuh menemui jalan buntu. Kala tangan yang kuayunkan menemui segala kegagalan. Temuilah aku ya Tuhan. Sudilah kiranya Engkau menjenguk aku. Walau sejenak, biarlah sukacita-Mu melingkupi aku.

Restore us again, O God our Savior,and put away your displeasure toward us. Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your anger through all generations? Will you not revive us again,that your people may rejoice in you? Show us your unfailing love, O Lord,and grant us your salvation. I will listen to what God the Lord will say;he promises peace to his people, his saints — but let them not return to folly. Surely his salvation is near those who fear him,that his glory may dwell in our land (Psalms 85:4-9)
(Mzm. 85:4-9)]

Akar Pemulihan: Pertobatan ke dalam Firman-Nya

Ketika situasi hidup terus melahirkan kesuraman.

Ketika kekeringan dan kehidupan tanpa buah sukacita terus nyata melanda.

Hanya tangan Tuhan lah yang sanggup memulihkan.

Merubah hidup kerontang menjadi penuh senyuman.

The Mystery of the Incarnation
A Disputation Between Christ and the Human Form

(For the Feast of the Nativity)

Comest Thou peaceably, O Lord?
"Yea, I am Peace!
Be not so fearful to afford
Thy Maker room! for I am the Reward
To which all generations of increase
Looking did never cease.
"Down from amid dark wings of storm
I set My Feet
To earth. Will not My earth grow warm
To feel her Maker take the form
He made, when now, Creation's purpose meet,
Man's body is to be God's Mercy-seat?

"Lord, I am foul: there is no whole
Fair part in me
Where Thou canst deign to be!
This form is not Thy making, since it stole
Fruit from the bitter Tree.
"Yet still thou hast the griefs to give in toll
That I may test the sickness of man's soul."

O Lord, my work is without worth!
I am afraid,
Lest I should man the blissful Birth.
Quoth Christ, "Ere seas had shores, or earth
Foundations laid,
My Cross was made!"

"Naught canst thou do that was not willed
By Love to be,
To bring the Work to pass through Me.
No knee
Stiffens, or bends before My Sov'reignty,
But from the world's beginning hath fulfilled
Its choice betwixt the valleyed and the hilled.
For both, at one decree,
My Blood was spilled.

"Yet canst Thou use these sin-stained hands?
"These hands," quoth Christ,
"Of them I make My need:
Since they sufficed to forge the bands
Wherein I hunger, they shall sow the seed!
And with bread daily they shall feed
My Flesh till, bought and bound, It stands
A Sacrifice to bleed.

"Lord, let this house be swept and garnished first!
For fear lest sin
Do there look in,
Let me shut fast the windows: lest Thou thirst,
Make some pure inner well of waters burst:
For no sweet water can man's delving win—
Earth is so curst.
Also bar up the door: Thou wilt do well
To dwell, whilst with us, anchorite in Thy cell.

Christ said "Let be: leave wide
All ports to grief!
Here when I knock I will not be denied
The common lot of all that here abide;
Were I so blinded, I were blind in chief:
How should I see to bring the blind relief?

Wilt Thou so make Thy dwelling? Then I fear
Man, after this, shall dread to enter here:
For all the inner courts will be so bright,
He shall be dazzled with excess of light,
And turn, and flee!
"But from his birth I will array him right,
And lay the temple open for his sight,
And say to help him, as I bid him see:
'This is for thee!'"

MEDITATION XVII
NUNC LENTO SONITU DICUNT, MORIERIS

Now this bell tolling softly for another, says to me, Thou must die.

PERCHANCE he for whom this bell tolls may be so ill as that he knows not it tolls for him. And perchance I may think myself so much better than I am, as that they who are about me, and see my state, may have caused it to toll for me, and I know not that. The church is catholic, universal, so are all her actions; all that she does, belongs to all. When she baptizes a child, that action concerns me; for that child is thereby connected to that head which is my head too, and ingraffed into that body, whereof I am a member. And when she buries a man, that action concerns me; all mankind is of one author, and is one volume; when one man dies, one chapter is not torn out of the book, but translated into a better language; and every chapter must be so translated; God employs several translators; some pieces are translated by age, some by sickness, some by war, some by justice; but God's hand is in every translation, and his hand shall bind up all our scattered leaves again, for that library where every book shall lie open to one another; as therefore the bell that rings to a sermon, calls not upon the preacher only, but upon the congregation to come; so this bell calls us all: but how much more me, who am brought so near the door by this sickness.

There was a contention as far as a suit (in which, piety and dignity, religion and estimation, were mingled) which of the religious orders should ring to prayers first in the morning; and it was determined, that they should ring first that rose earliest. If we understand aright the dignity of this bell, that tolls for our evening prayer, we would be glad to make it ours, by rising early, in that application, that it might be ours as well as his, whose indeed it is. The bell doth toll for him, that thinks it doth; and though it intermit again, yet from that minute, that that occasion wrought upon him, he is united to God. Who casts not up his eye to the sun when it rises? But who takes off his eye from a comet, when that breaks out? who bends not his ear to any bell, which upon any occasion rings? But who can remove it from that bell, which is passing a piece of himself out of this world?

No man is an island. entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were; any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

Neither can we call this a begging of misery, or a borrowing of misery, as though we were not miserable enough of ourselves, but must fetch in more from the next house, in taking upon us the misery of our neighbors. Truly it were an excusable covetousness if we did; for affliction is a treasure, and scarce any man hath enough of it. No man hath afflicion enough, that is not matured and ripened by it, and made fit for God by that affliction. If a man carry treasure in bullion or in a wedge of gold, and have none coined into current moneys, his treasure will not defray him as he travels. Tribulation is treasure in the nature of it, but it is not current money in the use of it, except we get nearer and nearer our home, heaven, by it. Another may be sick too, and sick to death, and this affliction may lie in his bowels, as gold in a mine, and be of no use to him; but this bell that tells me of his affliction, digs out, and applies that gold to me: if by this consideration of another's danger, I take mine own into contemplation, and so secure myself, by making my recourse to my God, who is our only security.

RESURRECTION, IMPERFECT.
by John Donne

SLEEP, sleep, old sun, thou canst not have repass'd,
As yet, the wound thou took'st on Friday last ;
Sleep then, and rest ; the world may bear thy stay ;
A better sun rose before thee to-day ;
Who—not content to enlighten all that dwell
On the earth's face, as thou—enlighten'd hell,
And made the dark fires languish in that vale,
As at thy presence here our fires grow pale ;
Whose body, having walk'd on earth, and now
Hasting to heaven, would—that He might allow
Himself unto all stations, and fill all—
For these three days become a mineral.
He was all gold when He lay down, but rose
All tincture, and doth not alone dispose
Leaden and iron wills to good, but is
Of power to make e'en sinful flesh like his.
Had one of those, whose credulous piety
Thought that a soul one might discern and see
Go from a body, at this sepulchre been,
And, issuing from the sheet, this body seen,
He would have justly thought this body a soul,
If not of any man, yet of the whole.

An Eve' Prayer

Lord Jesus, stay with me, for evening is at hand and the day is past; be my companion in the way, kindle my heart, and awaken hope, that I may know you as you are revealed in Scripture and in the breaking of bread. Grant this for the sake of your love toward me. Amen. †

THE LAMB

Little lamb, who made thee?
Does thou know who made thee,
Gave thee life, and bid thee feed
By the stream and o'er the mead;
Gave thee clothing of delight,
Softest clothing, woolly, bright;
Gave thee such a tender voice,
Making all the vales rejoice?
Little lamb, who made thee?
Does thou know who made thee?

Little lamb, I'll tell thee;
Little lamb, I'll tell thee:
He is called by thy name,
For He calls Himself a Lamb.
He is meek, and He is mild,
He became a little child.
I a child, and thou a lamb,
We are called by His name.
Little lamb, God bless thee!
Little lamb, God bless thee!

THE DIVINE IMAGE

To Mercy, Pity, Peace, and Love,
All pray in their distress,
And to these virtues of delight
Return their thankfulness.

For Mercy, Pity, Peace, and Love,
Is God our Father dear;
And Mercy, Pity, Peace, and Love,
Is man, His child and care.

For Mercy has a human heart;
Pity, a human face;
And Love, the human form divine:
And Peace the human dress.

Then every man, of every clime,
That prays in his distress,
Prays to the human form divine:
Love, Mercy, Pity, Peace.

And all must love the human form,
In heathen, Turk, or Jew.
Where Mercy, Love, and Pity dwell,
There God is dwelling too.

THE SHEPHERD

How sweet is the shepherd's sweet lot!
From the morn to the evening he strays;
He shall follow his sheep all the day,
And his tongue shall be filled with praise.

For he hears the lambs' innocent call,
And he hears the ewes' tender reply;
He is watchful while they are in peace,
For they know when their shepherd is nigh.

Man a Nothing

Aku hanyalah tubuh kosong penuh kekotoran,
dan yang diperbaharui oleh Kuasa Anugerah yang tak tampak;

diberikan kepada Kristus, dan dilahirbarukan;

Ketika Engkau ingin membimbingku, aku justru berkuasa atas diriku.
Ketika Engkau ingin bertakhta, aku justru memerintah atas diriku.
Ketika Engkau ingin memeliharaku, aku justru mencukupi diriku.
Ketika seharusnya aku bergantung kepada kecukupan dari-Mu,
aku justru berusaha sendiri,
Ketika seharusnya aku berserah kepada pemeliharaan-Mu,
aku justru mengikuti keinginanku sendiri,
Ketika seharusnya aku mempelajari, mencintai,
menghormati serta mempercayai-Mu,
aku justru melayani diri sendiri

Engkau menurunkannya.
ketika kekayaan menjadi idolaku, Engkau mengambilnya,
ketika kesenangan menjadi segalanya bagiku,
Engkau mengubahnya menjadi kepahitan.

Ubahlah aku yang memiliki mata keranjang,
telinga yang selalu ingin tahu, ketamakan, serta hati yang penuh nafsu;

Ucapan Bahagia Versi Dunia Sungsang

The world is charged with the grandeur of God,
It will flame out, like shining from shook foil;
It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil
Crushed. Why do men then now not reck his rod?
Generations have trod, have trod, have trod;
And all is seared with trade; bleared, smeared with toil;
And wears man’s smudge and shares man’s smell: the soil
Is bare now, nor can foot feel, being shod.

And for all this, nature is never spent;
There lives the dearest freshness deep down things;
And though the last lights off the black West went
Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs—
Because the Holy Ghost over the bent
World broods with warm breast and with ah! bright wings.

(Louis Untermeyer)
